08

WORK HEALTH & SAFETY

Worker wellbeing & conduct

The WHS system extends beyond physical hazards to worker wellbeing, conduct and fitness for work.

Psychosocial hazards

  • Identify and manage psychosocial risks associated with the way work is designed, managed and carried out.

Drugs and alcohol

  • Require workers to be fit for work and manage risks arising from drugs or alcohol.

Bullying and harassment

  • Maintain expectations for respectful behaviour and provide processes for concerns to be raised and addressed.

Fatigue management

  • Consider working hours, rest, travel, workload and other contributors to fatigue.

Remote and isolated work

  • Assess how long a person may work alone, time of day, available communications, skills, location and access to emergency assistance.
  • Use reliable mobile, radio or satellite communications, check-in systems, emergency contacts and backup options such as PLBs or duress alarms where required.

Health monitoring and surveillance

  • Provide health monitoring where required for exposure to noise, hazardous chemicals or other relevant hazards.
